Immature Stages of Lygaeidae

Detailed information on immature stages of Lygaeidae is being acquired.  However, Clausen (1940) noted that Geocoris punctipes Say nymphs feed on European red mite, Paratetranychus pilosus C. & F., on cotton, consuming an average of ca. 1,600 mites during their developmental period.  Eggs are laid singly on hosts and the cycle from egg to adult is ca. 30 days.  In Fiji, Germalus pacificus Banks attacks fruit fly, Chaetodacus passiflorae Frogg.  The nymphs suck the egg contents where they are embedded in the fruit rind.
